Telemedicine Policy Under Review

There has been significant transformation in the virtual care landscape since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve seen widespread adoption in a short period of time, particularly in primary care — which has resulted in one of the biggest shifts in health care we’ve ever seen. This shift has highlighted virtual care’s potential and established it as a legitimate and potentially necessary option for patient care.

It is within this new environment, that we are reviewing our current Telemedicine policy. We ask for your help as we do that by reflecting on some of the following questions for our Telemedicine review:

  • Does the current policy serve and protect the public interest?
Does it contain practical expectations for physicians?
  • How can CPSO support and enable the delivery of appropriate and high-quality virtual care?
  • What issues relating to virtual care are physicians and the public looking to CPSO to provide guidance on or set expectations for?
  • What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of providing care virtually that you’ve observed as a result of the widespread transformation that’s occurred during the pandemic?

Consultation will close on November 16, 2020.

We value your feedback and thank you for participating in this review.
