Introducing CPSO’s 2022 President, Vice-President
Dr. Janet van Vlymen
Dr. Janet van Vlymen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. van Vlymen joined the Faculty of Medicine at Queen’s University in 1998 after completing an ambulatory anesthesia fellowship in Dallas, Texas. She was appointed Medical Director of Pre-Surgical Screening in 2000, where she developed a streamlined, patient-centred program to prepare patients for surgery. In 2007, she was appointed Deputy Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013. She was appointed Program Medical Director for the Perioperative Services program at KHSC in 2018 with accountability for the quality of care for all patients, throughout their surgical experience.
In 2016, Dr. van Vlymen was appointed as Queen’s Academic Representative at CPSO Council. She joined the Quality Assurance Committee and Education Committee (now the Education Advisory Group), and was appointed Chair of both. She has been the Vice-President for the past year and a member of the Policy Review Working Group, Executive Committee, Governance Committee, and Finance and Audit Committee. In the coming year, Dr. Van Vlymen will chair Council and the Executive Committee, and continue to sit on the Governance Committee.
Dr. Rob Gratton
Dr. Rob Gratton is an Associate Professor and Maternal Fetal Medicine consultant at London Health Sciences Centre with 25 years of clinical experience in obstetrical and maternal fetal medicine subspecialty practice. He recently completed a six-year term as Chief of Obstetrics at London Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. Gratton trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Western Ontario, and attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine for a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Dr. Gratton’s academic interest and research is in the area of quality of care and patient safety.
At the College, Dr. Gratton is a long-time member of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (ICRC), and, in fact, sat on the committee as a non-council member before being elected to Council in 2016 in District 2. He was re-elected to Council in 2019 and has served as the ICRC Specialty Panel Chair for Obstetrics/Gynecology. He has also sat on the Finance and Audit Committee, including as Vice-Chair over the last year, and on the Executive Committee. In the coming year, he will continue to sit on the Executive Committee and will take a seat on the Governance Committee.
