For many years, Council elections have been held in the late summer/early fall. In an effort to improve the election process, Council recently approved by-law amendments which enable CPSO to hold elections in the spring, beginning in 2020.

Members in Districts 5 and 10 who are interested in being a candidate in the coming election can put their names forward in April. All members in those districts will have the chance to vote electronically during the election period from May 19 to June 9, 2020. The term for the elected Council member(s) will begin at the December Council meeting.

If you are interested in learning more about the Council or being a candidate in the upcoming Council elections, CPSO would love to connect with you! Send us an email and we can provide you with additional information. In the meantime, visit our website and keep an eye out for the next issue of Dialogue which will provide further details on how to submit a nomination.

Some of the benefits with a spring election include:

  1. Better timing for the nomination process as it will no longer be held over the summer months when many members are on vacation;
  2. More time for elected members to organize their schedules for the upcoming year to accommodate Council meetings and committee commitments; and
  3. More time and flexibility for elected members to participate in orientation activities before their term begins.
