Draft policy now open for consultation
Physicians who provide clinical care have a responsibility to have practices in place that protect patients, staff and others from the transmission of communicable diseases. Failure to ensure appropriate Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) practices are in place can have serious consequences for both patients and staff.
At its recent meeting, CPSO’s Board of Directors (formerly Council) approved the consultation of a new draft policy intended to help physicians understand their obligations so that they can keep up to date on best practices.
The draft policy, titled Infection Prevention and Control for Clinical Office Practice, requires physicians to undertake IPAC practices, in line with the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee’s (PIDAC’s) guidance to prevent IPAC lapses and ensure the provision of safe care to patients. Note: There are additional expectations that apply in out-of-hospital premises.
