Policies
Re-examining the Policy Review Process
CPSO Board approved changes to streamline and modernize CPSO policy documents:
- “Policies” renamed as “Professional Obligations”
- “Advice to the Profession” renamed as “Guidance for the Profession”
Redesign, formatting changes, and updates that do not alter intent will be made throughout the coming year
Professional Obligations
- New Professional Obligations: Delegation of Controlled Acts approved
- New Professional Obligations: Maintaining Appropriate Boundaries approved
Registration
- Two draft policies approved for circulation:
- Exemption from the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination for physicians certified in their home jurisdiction
- Specialist Recognition Criteria in Ontario
- Measuring 2026 KPI of issuing licence within 70 business days of receiving an application (rolling 3-month target at 80th percentile)
Investigations
- Despite high volume of new matters:
- Continuing to meet KPI of completing complaints (both public complaints and Registrar’s Investigations) within 150 days (rolling 3-month target at 80th percentile)
Quality Improvement (QI)
Physicians age 70-79 who are due for age-related Quality peer assessment may choose to complete QI Enhanced option
- Out of 407 to complete in 2026, 67% have chosen to complete QI Enhanced instead of a peer assessment
Discipline
- Health Professions Discipline Tribunals now has ten participating colleges, including CPSO
