CPSO continues to lay the groundwork for the regulation of Physician Assistants (PA), which will take effect on April 1, 2025.

On January 6, 2025, PAs can begin the process of registration by submitting an online application form and uploading supporting documents directly through CPSO’s Portal. Further details regarding PA regulation can be found in the Physician Assistants section of the CPSO website.

CPSO is also circulating proposed by-law changes relating to PAs that will, among other things, capture information that will be reflected in the PA register, as well as information that PAs will be required to provide to CPSO, including upon annual renewal.

Finally, the Board has approved by-law amendments enabling PAs to stand for election to the Board, along with physicians. As PAs will not be CPSO registrants until April 1, 2025, this will not apply to the 2025 Board elections process, which will already be underway, but will apply to the 2026 Board elections.
