With physician assistants (“PAs”) now regulated by CPSO, the Board of Directors has approved a new Physician Assistants policy.

The policy outlines key professional expectations for PAs, referencing existing CPSO policies on professionalism, boundaries, social media, consent, prescribing, and more. For example, it requires that PAs:

  • Meet their legal obligations and practise under delegation in accordance with the legislation and CPSO’s Delegation of Controlled Acts policy;
  • Uphold standards of medical professionalism and collaborate with healthcare teams; and
  • Protect patient health information and document care accurately.

The policy refers to existing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), which provide further guidance on topics such as sub-delegation and the implementation of orders. Further guidance will also be developed to address other common questions and issues related to PA practice.
