BOARD CHAIR

As my term as Board Chair comes to a close, I look back with pride on the accomplishments of the Board this year. We implemented our first province-wide Board Director election, welcomed over 600 physician assistants as registrants and approved two new classes of registration. These are just a few of the many opportunities we took to advance profession-led regulation in Ontario.

In the spring of 2025, it was extremely rewarding to see the level of physician engagement with our election from applicants, candidates, and those who voted. Your participation is crucial for ensuring that the Board composition reflects the experiences necessary to inform decisions that shape our profession’s future and uphold public confidence in our work.

Another area where we saw strong physician engagement was with our Quality Improvement (QI) program. As of October 2025, almost 32,000 physicians had participated in the inaugural five-year Quality cycle, signifying the program's strength and laying the groundwork for the second cycle starting in 2026.

Being involved with CPSO’s quality oversight work as past Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee has allowed me to see firsthand all the work that has gone into creating and streamlining a meaningful QI program. I look forward to seeing a continued high level of engagement with the program in the years to come.

It has been a privilege to lead the CPSO Board and collaborate with my fellow Directors, CEO/Registrar Nancy Whitmore and CPSO staff. I am delighted to hand the reins to our 2026 Chair, Patrick Safieh, who is deeply committed to our work and leads with humility and thoughtfulness. As we move forward, let’s continue our commitment to our profession, the public and our vision: trusted doctors providing great care.
